Embrace the Power of Sleep for Your Family
Sleep is a biological need. We often don’t realise how important sleep is until we aren’t getting enough of it. Lack of sleep spills over into our daytime activities and can impact our relationships.
The good news is that virtually all children without major medical or neurological disorders are capable of learning to sleep well.
I believe the best approach to sleep is a holistic one, as there are so many factors at play. In addition to my personal beliefs is a foundation of scientific research. This tells us that by adjusting factors such as the sleep environment, timing, nutrition and changing associations we can produce consolidated and restorative sleep.
This will allow your child to grow and thrive by strengthening memory; boosting the immune system; repairing bone, tissue and muscle; regulating appetite; sharpening perceptual skills; reducing stress; and releasing growth hormones.
Baby and Toddler sleep is a very divisive topic in parenting circles, and as such it is easy to feel guilty for wanting to seek help. I think we all have enough parental guilt in this world! So let go of any guilt that surrounds you prioritising one of your child's most fundamental needs. And let's never forget that you as parents also have needs that deserve to be met… like allowing yourself time in the evening to read a book, or watch your favourite TV show, having a meaningful conversation with someone you love… or doing something completely wild like allowing yourself to have more sleep.

“Michelle supported us to do some gentle sleep training and make some key changes to support our baby’s sleep needs, and our own! We went from 4+ wakes per night to just one, plus we got our evenings back. We would definitely recommend Michelle and wouldn’t hesitate to use her services again if sleep gets off track, or we have another little one in the Future!” - 4 months old
“Michelle is a very knowledgeable, communicative, compassionate, and patient sleep consultant. We started consulting with her when my son was 9 months old. She helped us tremendously with both sleep training and nap training. Our child went from nursing 3x a night and having no routine, to sleeping through the night and having a solid routine where he can know what to expect throughout his day and night. He has learned the art of self soothing with very minimal tears and is a happier baby because of it. Michelle has always been available to help and quick to respond. She has guided us through several sleep regressions and a few days of sickness. I appreciate her expertise as well as patience in walking us through this process. She gave me a lot of assurance and confidence. Her coaching works! I saw immediate improvement each time I implemented her suggestions. With Michelle’s coaching and expertise, not only are we now able to get the rest we so desperately needed but our child is able to as well independently of us. 5+ stars, no doubt.” - 9 months old
“We are so thankful for the support Michelle has given us in helping our toddler sleep better. Michelle did a thorough assessment and then provided us with options for how to address our sleep challenges. It was great that she gave us options so we could pick the approach we felt most comfortable with. Then when we were putting the plan into place, she provided reassurance, relevant information, and helped us troubleshoot when we ran into challenges. Thanks to Michelle’s support we no longer dread bedtime” - 2 years 3 months old
“I had put off sleep training for too long as I was worried it would be too hard or upsetting…Michelle was very understanding and reassuring, and it was so much quicker and easier than I thought it would be. Michelle knew the right approach, provided a lot of useful information to help me, and was very supportive throughout the process. My son now sleeps through the night instead of waking every 2 hours!” - 17 months old
“Michelle has been so helpful in assisting us with Miller’s sleep. She supported us to create a healthy sleep environment and has given us some great tools to encourage longer naps and night sleeps. We’re still working through the ups and downs of newborn sleep patterns, but we’ve seen huge improvement in the past couple of weeks and I’m confident that we’ll soon have a great sleeper - thanks Michelle!” - 8 weeks old
“Michelle helped me to feel comfortable to teach my daughter how to self settle. She is so kind and has a nice nature about her. I looked forward to her responses every time I emailed her to which she always replied promptly” - 6 months old
“We sought Michelle’s help with moving our 6 month old daughter from co-sleeping, to her own cot in her own room. Michelle respected our desire to move slowly and to use gentle techniques that avoided crying. She provided a structure to our day, including feeds and how best to introduce solids so they didn’t interfere with sleep. By the second day, our daughter was taking all of her day naps in her cot and able to be putto sleep with us just being nearby. Now we can leave the room and know she will go to sleep alone. Once we felt comfortable, we moved her to her room at night and this sleep was also greatly improved! Michelle’s support allowed us to be responsive to our daughter while also learning when we could allow her the space to fall asleep on her own” - 6 months old
My name is Michelle Stanbury, owner and founder of Snoozy Juniors, established in 2022. I have been working in the behaviour change field for over 7 years, and most recently in the discipline of infant and child sleep (0-4 years old). I have a Psychology degree from the University of Canterbury, but my biggest teachers in life are my 2 young daughters. I have recently worked in an Early Childhood Centre, providing nursery support.
When I became a parent no one could have ever prepared me for how vulnerable and confused I would feel about the ‘right’ approach to help my baby sleep. And more importantly how better sleep was so intricately linked with my ability to bond with my babies, and my own mental health. This led me down the path to becoming a certified Infant and Child Sleep consultant, where I want to focus my time and skills to help other families to thrive.
It is critical to me that people feel safe, seen, heard and respected when interacting with me. I appreciate that this is often a time of vulnerability for families - tired, confused, desperate.
My goal is to help parents understand the nature of sleep and troubleshoot their specific sleep situation. Through this I will create a plan tailored to your needs, your parenting philosophy and your child's temperament. And most importantly, provide you with support and coaching while you make the recommended changes.
